Privacy by Design - A Proactive Approach | Data Privacy Series-Part 1/3

February 12, 2024

Privacy by Design (PbD) is a concept developed back in the 90’s, to address the ever-growing and systemic effects of Information and Communication Technologies, and of large-scale networked data systems. The concept was proposed by Dr. Ann Cavoukian.

PbD advances the view that the future of privacy cannot be assured solely by compliance with regulatory frameworks; rather, privacy assurance must ideally become an organization’s default mode of operation. What we essentially do is to embed privacy measures into our solution or service from the point of early design and development. This would enable our solutions to have a strong privacy posture and can ship our solution to costumers with utmost trust.

The foundational principles of Privacy by Design are.

PbD ensures privacy and protection are taken care of at all stages of the data lifecycle (e.g., collection, use, retention, storage, disposal, or destruction) to avoid legal liability, maintain regulatory compliance, protect your brand, and maintain customer confidence. This is especially true for organizations that are under constant review, both internally by their boards and externally by regulators and business partners. By taking a proactive, dynamic approach to privacy protection, Privacy by Design certification will enable your organization to:

  1. Decrease the risk of fines due to privacy breaches
  2. Build trust and confidence among customers
  3. Minimize compliance risk

Pbd aims to improve the implementation of privacy measures by minimizing perceived disadvantages. Using Privacy by Design, businesses can create more efficient frameworks for laws such as the GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, PCI-DSS and SOX
